More about the artwork
Just roll with it! is an invitation to embrace life with lightness, movement, and trust. The work celebrates the freedom that comes from letting go of rigid expectations and allowing ourselves to move forward even when the path is uncertain. Through the image of retro roller skates, the piece evokes momentum, playfulness, and the joy of simply continuing—without overthinking every turn.
The skates function as a metaphor for life itself: unstable at times, exhilarating at others, but always in motion. They remind us that balance is not something we achieve once and forever, but something we constantly negotiate as we move. Falling is part of the process, not a failure, and getting back up is simply another way of rolling forward.
For me, this work speaks directly to the pressure many women feel to have everything under control—to plan, to predict, to perfect. Just roll with it! challenges that impulse. It suggests that freedom can also be found in surrendering control, in trusting our ability to adapt rather than forcing certainty where it doesn’t exist.
The vibrant colors and dynamic composition reinforce this sense of movement and optimism. They carry an emotional energy that mirrors the rush of choosing joy over fear, curiosity over hesitation. The skates are not static objects; they are charged with intention, inviting the viewer to imagine themselves in motion.
There is also a nostalgic element at play. Roller skates recall moments of childhood, freedom, and carefree expression—times when joy came naturally and fear of judgment was minimal. By revisiting this imagery, the work reconnects us with that instinctive confidence we often lose as adults.
Just roll with it! is about resilience through softness. It reminds us that strength doesn’t always look like control or discipline; sometimes it looks like flexibility, humor, and the courage to keep moving even when the road feels uneven.
This piece encourages the viewer to trust the process, to accept uncertainty as part of growth, and to remember that as long as we keep rolling, we are still moving forward.
You don’t have to control the road—just trust your movement and keep rolling..”
