More about the artwork
Shake it up is a piece born from my interest in playing with double meanings and translating them into visual language. From the very beginning, I wanted the title to function as an open invitation: to shake, to mix, to move things out of place. Not only inside a glass, but within life itself. The work starts from the idea that nothing truly new happens without a deliberate disruption.
The shaker and the margarita appear as symbols of that initial decision—the moment we choose not to stay still. In mixology, shaking is essential for ingredients to meet and transform; in life, the same applies. Things don’t blend on their own. It takes intention, movement, and a certain willingness to step into the unknown for something different to emerge.
For me, Shake it up is an attitude. It’s the conscious choice to break away from routine, to challenge predictability, and to allow new combinations to enter our personal narrative. Sometimes this means letting go of control, accepting that the outcome isn’t fully defined. But that uncertainty is precisely where possibility lives.
The margarita represents balance—between sweetness and acidity, comfort and intensity. I see it as a metaphor for the experiences that shape us, especially the ones that challenge us. Not everything that transforms us is easy, but it is often what allows us to grow, expand, and redefine ourselves.
The shaker, on the other hand, speaks about the inner process. The movement that isn’t always visible from the outside, but is absolutely necessary. Shaking requires energy, effort, and decision. It acknowledges that change is not passive—it asks us to participate, to engage, and to embrace motion rather than stability.
I worked with vibrant colors and a dynamic composition to transmit that sense of momentum and renewal. I wanted the piece to feel alive, as if something is happening in the exact moment you look at it. This is not a static scene; it is transformation in progress.
Shake it up is both a personal reminder and a collective one. It suggests that it’s okay to disrupt comfort, to question routines, and to move things around. Sometimes, all we need to discover something better is the courage to mix differently and trust the process.
Nothing changes if nothing moves. Sometimes, all it takes is one good shake to reveal a better version of what already exists.”
